One Morning

What has been happening in Gaza is cruel, heartbreaking, and utterly shameful. Women, children, and helpless civilians are being killed, displaced, and faced with endless suffering. Who is right and who is wrong, should not be the main focus now. This atrocity needs to stop, no matter what.

I just can't imagine what little children are going through, who are still alive. Here is my poetic expression of their shattered world; their world is very different from ours.

One Morning

The little girl looks around in shocking disbelief!
Where is her Mommy?
Tears rolling down her frightened face;
She is crying for help, comfort, and love.
Smoke, fumes, and fire whirl up in the air.

All had witnessed a spectacular show.
Tanks and armored vehicles rumbled in this little town;
Hundreds of aircraft flew over the blue horizon;
Missiles, rockets, and explosions struck like thunders;
Raging fire lit up the darkened sky.

They were running for life at the dawn of Eid,
not knowing where to hide or flee.
Their children were not adorned with new clothes.
Their prayers were different;
different from other Muslims celebrating Eid.

A fear, that they might not see the next Eid!
A wish, to reunite with their loved ones!
A yearning, that the world will look at them differently!
A hope, that history would change its course!

The little girl looks around in shocking disbelief!
Her vision encompasses body parts on the ground;
Torn arms. torn limbs, bits of flesh thrown all over.
She doesn't find her Mommy.

  1. Such a beautifully painful and visceral poem. The imagery is vivid, upsetting and a reminder that we cannot stay silent whilst others suffer, no matter who they are. Thank you very much for writing this and please continue to use your art to give a voice to the voiceless.

  2. What has the world come to, What has happened to humanity, where is our sense of compassion and why is there so much human destruction when we are already battling with the endless devastation through Corona.
    Your poerty reflects the devastation and the massacre of a helpless nation.
    You are using a powerful tool through your expression of writing. I pray that it brings awareness and changes to the world of humanity

  3. This heartfelt piece goes right to the core of the pain and suffering so many Palestinians, who have largely been ignored or forgotten by the world outside Israel.
    They say the sight of families being destroyed by senseless provocation opens the eyes of those who might be able to make a difference - let's hope this poem moves this process forward.
    Thank you.
